Having a fever and suddenly feel unwell?
When you catch a flu, you can suddenly feel unwell. You often have a fever. You can cough, sneeze or have sore throat. It is caused by a virus, the influenza virus. Some people can be quite unwell.
Flu is not the same as having caught a cold. From a cold, you are much less unwell.

When you should call us
In case of a hight fever, you do not immediately have to call us. Do call us in case you have a flu and notice these signs:
- Feeling increasingly unwell
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fainting
- Chestpain
- Drowsiness
Advice
For most people, a flu will just pass. It can take 1 to 3 weeks before you feel well again.
Make sure you drink fluids, about 1,5 to 2 liters per day. You can take paracetamol as well.
Influenza vaccination
Elderly people with health problems like diabetes, a weak immune system or heart, lung or kidney diseases are most in danger from the flu. These people will get a yearly invitation to have a flu vaccine.
When regarded necessary, we will invite you for an influenza vaccination at our practice. Selected patients will receive annual invitations.
