Earwax Removal

Earwax build-up

Symptoms of earwax build-up

Do you hear less or have a blocked feeling in one of your ears? This can be caused bij earwax building up in your ear canal. It can block the ear canal partially or block the entire earcanal. If you have an hearing aid, the earwax build-up may cause ringing or buzzing in your ear.

Make an appointment with your GP assistant

We can flush your ears if necessary. You can make an appointment with one of the GP assistants to check if you have earwax buid-up in your ears, if so she can syringe your ear(s) with water. This is a simple procedure.
IMPORTANT: In case you have a hole in your ear drum (perforation), or ear drum tubes please let us know beforehand, because if this is the case, it is not possible to have your ears flushed. Contact us about other ways to have your earwax removed.

Oil drops before having your ears flushed

Put a few drops of olive (or other cooking) oil in your ear. Start doing this three days before your ears will be flushed, two or three times a day. This makes the earwax softer and therefore easier to remove.

After you have put the oildrops in your ear, hold your head to one side or lie down for a minute or so. The oil drops have time to go a bit deeper in your ear canal

Earwax after your ears have been flushed

Sometimes ear wax builds up again after a while. Some people have this often, others hardly ever. Do not use your fingers or cotton buds to remove earwax. This will push it in and make it worse. Only remove earwax from the outside of your earcanal.
Earwax is important, it protects the ear canal and ear drum. Usually it comes out of the ear canal gradually. In this way it keeps the ear canal clean. You only need to have the earwax removed if it blocks your ear canal.
